If you live in the US you can try this website (Yellow Pages Goes Green) to have the yellow pages delivery stopped. It also looks like it should stop the white pages from being delivered.

Stopping delivery of the white and yellow pages is a great idea - everything is available online now and those huge print outs are always out of date so there's no need for those massive books.

Who runs this web site and how can we be assured that it doesn't exist primarily to harvest our addresses or emails? – lgritz Oct 21 at 3:46

Opting out of Yellow Pages delivery in the UK:

Deya Ltd is the company responsible for the delivery of the Yellow Pages in the UK.

In order to opt out, you need to supply them with your full address so that they can remove it from distribution lists for delivery: Sylvie.Grocott@Deya.co.uk

I have not managed to find any way to stop the UK Yellow Pages being delivered (I'm going to write to them to try and find out though).

However, most UK councils accept Yellow Pages in their paper recycling collections: for more information in your area use the following link: Where to recycle - UK

Regarding yellow pages delivery in the UK, john Salmon of Yell group had this to say at thisismoney.co.uk:

'We are very mindful of the environment though and the directories are produced using recycled fibre, as well as virgin fibre from sustainably managed forests, and old directories can be recycled.

'We certainly don't want to deliver a directory to people who inform us that they don't wish to receive one and in such cases we remove their address from our distribution list.

'For all matters relating to delivery of Yellow Pages directories, please call us free on 0800 671 444.'
