The avatars on StopTheSearch.com are handled via Gravatar. It is an outside service unfortunately but it is actually quite convenient - once you sign up fro gravatar you'll be able to use your avatar across a number of sites.

Once you set your email address the same on Gravatar and in your profile here your avatar will automatically be pulled in. And when you update your avatar choice in Gravatar it will update here automatically too.
