Try to buy products with minimal packaging - not only will you be producing less waste but you'll be encouraging companies to package their products with less waste as well.

This is excellent advice where food or fresh produce is concerned as often you will find an unpackaged alternative available most shops. However, it is also worth checking the 'food mileage' as some products will have travelled further than others. One example of this that I saw earlier in the year was pre-packed strawberries in a major supermarket. Despite all being packed as the same product at the same price point the shelves contained a mix of fruit from Yorkshire, Scotland and Spain. Once you start thinking about this you'll soon find that it transfers to a lot of products. |

If you are buying fresh ingredients, try to avoid packaging entirely by taking re-sealable boxes or re-usable bags to the shops. |
